I have my eye on a blue hippo tang at my LFS. The tang is very small about 3 inches. I am looking for info. on this fish beacuse I was told they are very very hard to get started in a new tank. I have a reef tank with lots of hiding room. My water is perfect. My QT tank is persect also. What steps should I take with this fish. My LFS only sells top notch fish and ar willing to help every saltwater tanks person in any way they can.

250? Wow...

Hippo tangs can reach up to 12 inches and need lots of swimming room... a 250 gallon more than meets that requirement.
As a juvenile, it should be fed mostly a variety of algae based foods. It will mature into an omnivore and should then be fed a diet of both algae and meaty foods (mysid shrimp, plankton, etc).
Hippo tangs, as a general rule, tend to be very susceptible to ich and other diseases. As such, they should only be added to an established and stable tank (6 months old minimum) and should be quarantined for at least 3 weeks.
Like most tangs, they will tolerate other tangs but will have a tendency to be aggressive to conspecifics.
What other fish do you have in your tank right now?
