Hitchhiker crab

Sorry I don't have a picture but this morning I saw this large crab come out of my LR. Its legs were striped, brown and it had one very large whitish claw. The claw was large, much larger than emerald crabs. When I tried to get it out, it went deep in the rock. Anyone have any idea what it might be and more importantly, how do I get it out?

no clue what it is, but thanks to you knowing where it is, your life is easier to remove it.
make some water, 1.031 sg and have a bucket of water about the same salinity you keep your tank.
put the hyper saline water in a little tupperware container, enough to cover the rock. dip the rock, put the rock over the bucket and the thing should shoot right out of the rock.

Back when I started my tanks with "fresh" live rock I got a lot of crabs. The way I caught them was to rubber band a piece of shrimp to a small rock and put it in the bottom of a tall drinking glass. Lean the glass up against your rock after the lights go out. The crab will slide down the side of the glass but won't be able to climb out of the slick side. You'll probably catch all your hermits too but eventually the bad boy will find his way into the trap.
