HI guys... normally I am in Reef Chat, but my mother has decided she want's a salt water tank. She has asked me to maintain it and take care of it, and she has taken a liking to the panther groupers. I have never kept that particular fish (or any grouper) so I have a question...
Can you keep more than one panther grouper together?? (Assuming the tank is big enough and all)
Or is this a species that is aggressive to its own?

I have a panther grouper and is doing great, they are extremely hardy fish. I haven't had more than 1 panther grouper in my tank, but I saw in my lfs 3 panther groupers that were about 4 in. So I guess it can be done, but if there is agression I would do something about it. Panther groupers get pretty big, and you should get a big tank, if you want to keep them full grown.

just because some fish do ok in a fish store doesnt mean they will in an aquarium. the reason they do ok at a fish store is because there is 3 of them in about 2 gallons of water so none of them can establish any sort of territory. well thats what i read anyways. what i do know about saltwater fish is that the more a fish looks like itself, the more it hates that fish. so in this hobby most of the time unless it schools you probably cant get 2 of the same type of fish. but i dont know anything about panther groupers and maybe a grouper is different. good luck, and hope she likes her tank.

I have a marine betta (grouper) I have heard and read they can be housed with panther groupers. They can both get pretty big though, but they are both VERY cool fish. They will eat just about anything they can fit into thier mouths though so think about sizes of tankmates (even inverts) when considering groupers.
