just went to lfs and talked to the SW guy. He's in the local reef club around here i guess.
anyway. He recommends 2 PC smartlites. What can I keep with these on a 75g and is it enough liting?
omg then he tells me he had to invest in a chiller. Um... I live in BUFFALO. hw says his MH made the tank rise to 86 degrees in the summer... with central air.
wtf????
if my apt is 70 - 72 in the summer how is the tank rising 8 degrees? Please tell me that he's impaired in some way and that I don't need a chiller. I mean some of you guys/ladies live in LA and TX... do you have chillers?

IMO it depends on amount of equipment in the water as well. One large power head makes a big difference in a 34 gallon tank. About 4 degrees difference in mine with each MP1200. One for the skimmer, one for circulation and one for return from the refugium(I know, its supposed to overflow, but space is a concern).

2 PC smartlights would be ok for a FO tank...you would need more like 4 to have some corals. Althought some coral will be ok with less light. As far as a chiller...here in Alabama it gets HOT HOT in the summer. I keep the AC at 72 and HAVE to use the heater to keep the water temp up. Only once during a power outage in the dead of summer did the temp get too high in the tank. A chiller wouldnt have worked in that case anyway. I wouldnt think you needed a chiller unless you dont run the AC.
Have a great day!!
