HOB filter to refugium

My tank 29 gallon-FOWLER
I have 2 HOB filters and was thinking of making one into a small refugium.
I think I need to:
Take out all of the filters.
Put LR small rumble in the bottom.
Put Chaeto on the top.
Do you think this will work?
I think that I will need something to keep the Chaeto from getting into my DT. Any ideas?

Yes, a lot of people do it with the Aquaclear filters.
You can cut up the thing that holds the media in place, or cut a piece of eggcrate and glue it to the return to keep the chaeto in.
