HOB Fuge HELP

Hey all,
I picked up a HOB Fuge from someone and they didnt have time to explain much (and had to run out of town unexpectantly) so I figured I try to get some help on here.... Feel kinda dumb asking but I want to make sure i do it right and not flood my room.
Alright, the DT is a 29gal standard (He had it on a 37g until he upgraded). The Fuge holds 5gals but im stumped on the pluming. It has a 1in "u" tube that goes from the fuge to the overflow box however the 'u tube' is "free-standing" (not connected to anything) Im wondering if I need to run some sort of pump to start the siphon.
In the middle there is another "free standing" piece of 1/2in pvc pipe that is the "return" (it also has a small hole drilled into the end cap to add additional flow to the next chamber in the fuge). He did say that a small pump was needed for this.
I remember him saying that just a return pump was needed, so I guess my question is how does the water get from my DT into the Fuge??? (feel really stupid lol)

Thanks, I appreciate the help :)

mine had a built in tube that attached to a maxi jet that pumped water into the fuge from the tank, then another that went back into tank

no, just one. the pump is attached to the side you see the long pipe. Then the water just flows out the other side where there is just a hole and pipe back into tank.
