Hole in my leather

Not sure of what's going on here....the edges on this leather have been kind of wavy lately, and two big holes formed at the rim. Been like that for about two weeks. Today, it looks like that piece is going to drop off. Then this slime coating and these little black specks appeared. Anyone know what's happening? I'm pretty sure the hole wasn't made from someone taking a bite. Just curious.

it looks healty other than the gaping hole! keep your eye on it and make sure you dont find any parasitic worms, nidus or crabs on it, esp at night!

Well, about two weeks after the last post, the hole continued to geet larger. The piece that was hanging off got fuller and grew a stem before I cut it off and stuck it on a rock. It's doing fine, but now there are two more holes forming. Nothing is chewing on this guy. It's fragging itself!!! Woo-Hoo!!!

Good to see that as I have a big leather doing the same thing. I was hoping that was what was happening but wasn't sure.
