I have read through some posts on here and I am still yet to find out if they are two diffrent species or the same? I was at my LFS last night and they got what says Honeycomb on the tank and it looks just like the Tesse. It was pretty big and aggressive but no where near the 6 feet that they do become as adults. The eel is $212 and I was just wondering is there two diffrent species or just 1 eel with two diffrent names
I am not trying to get him i am just curious I do not think my 125 is ready for a 6 foot beast

They are both the same eel, they go by either name. And a 125 gallon is way to small for one, i wouldn't keep one in anything smaller than a 1000 gallon. They just get way to big.

There are two seperate species, with the two different names. However, just like with alot of other fish, people have mixed up common names. There are quite a few people that call the Tesselata Moray a "Honeycomb" Moray.
The true Honeycomb is Muraena melanotis, and you can find info HERE for it.
The Tesselata Moray is Gymnothorax favagineus and they can/will grow up to 9 - 10 feet...not just 5.
