Wow! Thank God it's saturday and I don't have make up on cause it'd be a mess!!
I'm bawling like a big baby.
That is so incredibly touching!
I could tell by the price of gas posted on the sign that this had to be a while ago, but... wow...

They are doing it all over the country for fallen soldiers. Some of the ceremonies they attend have very little family at the funeral. They make sure the soldier has a proper farewell. It's worth googling "patriot guard honors soldier" as there are many hits. They started as a counter to the protests by a church in Kansas that was protesting war by degrading the fallen soldiers. It grew from there.

I saw in the backround, what looked to be those idiot activists protesting at the funeral.
We had the spokesperson for that church on a radio talk show here once. I swear to goodness, they are the reasons people avoid, are afraid of, and mock christianity.

Indeed, but they make other people shine. Without their antics, the Patriot Guard may not have come to be what they are today. We need to see the worst in people to see the good stuff. I see them as a necessary evil, but yeah...they aren't doing Jesus any favors.

After the tornado last month here, we had a memorial service for the mother and father of a church members niece. The nutball group out of Kan. announced they were coming to the area to protest. I can't even begin to tell you how grateful our church was to have the Patriot Guard contact us and offer their services even though it was not a military funeral.
The Patriot Guard not only sent members to our Church but to three other services in the area on the same day.
About 2 yrs ago a Marine from a small town just south of us was killed in Iraq. this same group from Kan. came to spread their hate. The Patriot Guard came in and lined the small highway in front of the high school where they held his funeral to shield the family from the protest, Two miles of bikes and American Flags, it was quite a patriotic site.

Being a Baptist myself it really irks me that they do what they do in the name of God.
We have a young man at our church that is in seminary right now, one of his professors has studied the WBC group and told us that this group is all about money. they protest these funerals because people are more likely to strike out then, and if they do, then they sue them. They use the cover of being a church for the tax benefits.

It makes me well up inside just watching the video clips. These are some fine people that remind me that there are still good people in the world.

Many of these guys returned from Viet Nam to be be spat on and called names like "baby killer"....they love this country more than anybody, even after the poor welcome they received. There is no reqirement to join. You do not need to be a veteran. You don't need a bike. You just have to care enough to join. I'd love to see younger people in it, but I'd just add to the "old guy" statistic you mentioned.

I have had the honor to speak with a few Patriot Guards ,i was shocked to find out that i was more angry at the protesters than they. They explained to me they do it out of respect for the fallen and the family and friends of him/her. Not out of anger but to protect the family and friends from additional suffering.
