I know this question has kind of been done to death, but this is a new version of the same old question. Once a clown starts going into an anemone, how long until it actually uses it as its host? The reason I ask is because I had resolved myself to being one of those who's clowns hosted inanimate objects when I glanced at the aquarium last night to see that my female ocellaris was snuggling in my sebae anemone. She went in for about 10secs three or four different times, then the lights went out and her and my male went back to their corner for bed. So far today, no more activity. I am assuming she needs to build up the immunity, so how long will that take. Or was this just a fluke and she really is choosing the back corner as her home?

it's a fish...so you just have to wait and see. Maybe she tried it and didn't like it. Maybe it's the start of a beautiful friendship.

Should you really care as long as it goes near the anenome and it doesnt have to host it they only do this in the wild for protection

My Osc. CF did this with a BTA, the female hosted it first. At first she only hosted for short times and the male didn't go anywhere near the BTA. Now they both comfortably host the BTA. I was pretty excited when they first started. It took a couple months. Good luck.

it's not an important thing, but it is super cool to watch a fish literally cuddle with something. I am super hopeful now that it will be a continual thing.

a BIG + IMO as well!

THanks Al, I'm hoping mine have the same process yours did. Still no continual hosting, but when I cleaned the glass today with the magnet cleaner they both went in for protection. Fingers crossed!

Thank you! Mine weren't quite so easy, but I am grateful that it finally happened.

I have a love hate relationship with my clown. He is probably my favorite fish. He is really cool but he always stays in the top corner of the tank. I only have PC's in my nano so I don't believe I have the proper lighting for a nem, but I have a torch coral and a frogspawn I was hoping he would notice. But mine wont even swim down that low to check them out. Congrats man. Im jealous!
