Ok I've heard all this before but I'm needing some more inovative help... It's not even that hot out yet in East Lansing and my tank already is getting too hot during the daytime... Currently it runs about 82 during the day and then dips down to about 78ish during the night... Help please... buying a chiller is outta the question and the whole frozen liter bottles won't work very well in a 29 gallon tank with no sump! What could I do?

You can buy one of those small clip on fans and have it blow across the surface of the tank. This will help keep with evaporation and keep the tank cooler.

You might want to invest in a better heater too. 4 degrees of temparature change in a day is quite a bit. IMO, 2 degrees should be the max.

Yep, this works very well and is what I do when I need to cool my water.

I've put the fan up a few days ago and so far it's working great... the only variance it has now is about from 79-80 from day to night!!! Thanks for the help

I know what you're saying! I live in a suburb of Grand Rapids...and it is HOT..today especially. I'm having the same problem. I have a large floor fan next to the tank now, plus air conditioning and fans, and my tank is about 82 steady. But, I think my thermometer might be broken (old digital), because yesterday it said 90 and I flipped, but everything looked just fine, and was acting normal, so I dipped my fingers in the water, and there was NO WAY it was that warm. I still wanna get a couple fans to bring it down a little more, but, the best thing I can tell ya, is to make sure that room is cold. If the room is cold, the water won't get quite so warm. PS..I live in a upper-story apartment..so it gets HOT.

yea I live in an upstairs room in our house... and you can definitely tell the difference just going up and down the stairs... I'm staring to put ziplock bags of ice in to bring it down... My water doesn't feel like it is all that hot either... but my thermometer says it is... and I find it hard not to belive.. it's only a couple months old... I don't have a spare either... this sucks!! but I'm even scared to turn on my lights... cuz if that happened over night with the lights off... if I turn them on it'll make it even hotter... with my fans or without... this is starting to get annoying... why couldn't I live in alaska or something LOL

Yep..I do that a lot..in fact, I keep those smaller plastic pop bottles, and fill them up half way with water, and put them in my freezer. I have about 5 of them. I always keep them in there, in case my tank gets too hot. What kind of lights do you have? Do you have corals? If so, what kinds of corals? Trust me, you don't want to live in Alaska. Then you'd have problems keeping the tank warm enough. You'd have to buy a huge heater. LOL!

Turn on the air conditioning.......Short of a chiller, the need to be constantly fooling with frozen containers of water to cool temp down or constant adding of lots of top off water due to additional fans be8ng used gets old, so if you have AC turn it on and be done with it.

I don't have air conditioning otherwise we wouldn't be having this problem... I have VHO lighting 3 bulbs 225watt total. The corals I have are xenia, shrooms, frogspawn, yellow polyp colonies, GSP, a little bit of zoos and maidens hair...

Without A/C..there's really nothing you can do. Just buy a smaller air-conditioner for THAT room.
