household air and saltwater tanks

i've been reading alot of threads on here today and i havent seen any related to household air and pollutes... i'm a smoker and i was wondering how much affect the smoke will have on my aquarium? it's a 55g with LR/LS and a 5g sum (all the room i had) any thoughts or tips would be interesting to read

I smoke and have had tanks for many years, with no problems. As long as you aren't ashing in the water

And not using an air pump.

I would be careful. The smoke can give fish gill cancer.

I was just reading last week somewhere that smoking in the house has some effect on protein skimmer performance, but other than that I haven't heard of anything

If you have a protein skimmer or air pump on your tank the smoke can be injected into your tank, but it should be fine as long as you don't hold it right next to the air intake.
