I've kept a few in my displays for over five years now.....mine have seldom survived longer than a couple of years and the largest I've ever had was maybe 2"-3"....called him Kong.

Sounds like a typical growth rate to me....and are you sure it was a dead speciman or just the remains of a molt?

well havin' crabs is never a thing to carry on about.......

...but in regard to your emeralds......it is very possible that the dead speciman was the remians of a molt....they shed the entire skeleton as they grow and the remains will often look exactly like a dead emerald. Normally they'll hide away for a few days after molting so I'd keep a eye out for him.......
...and sorry about the cheap "crab" joke.....I couldn't resist....its early and the meds I'm on affect me.

I bought red and a green emerald 2 months ago. I found the green one dead a few days later. The red one is always out in the open and I have seen him molt. Last week I found a green crab molt. The green one is still living but I can never find him.....

The joys of owning an aquarium.

The quoted size on the descriptions page is the size that they are when you get em.... Not their max size. Idk if they list max size here.
