How big does a clown have to be?

Hey everyone,

I'm going to be getting a white stripe maroon clown next week. It's about 2 inches. If I got the clown and put him in the tank, and I decide to get another maroon clown should I just get a baby one, like 1" long, or will the big one try to kill him? I know clowns dont like to have other clown with them unless the other is pretty big. I was thinking about pairing them up.
Any thoughts about this good or bad will be greatly appreciated.

with the premnas clowns its not really goo to pair them unless you are gonna breed em. They will most likely fight to the death. If you HAVE to have a pair i would get one then wait until he is around 2.5 inches and get a new one smaller then 1.25 inches. Put a peice of eggcrate in the tank so the smaller one has somewhere to go that the largerer one cant get to. Once the smaller one is approcaherd by the large one and starts to conbvulse with the large one uninterested in the smalle one, then you are ok. The small on has just yielded to the larger one.

but really if you are going to get two as well, introduce them together....watch them for a little while but they may be ok....depending on size of the tank..

introduce the smaller one at least a few weeks later and in a cage that doesn't allow the big fish to come in and small fish to sneak out but allows some flow. observe the female's behavior for a couple days. let the male out when the female 'appears' to not mind the male as much then release the male. observe. put male back in cage if she assaults him too much. repeat. if it fails three times try another male.

thanks for all the info everyone. the plan was to have a pair and then breed them later on. i went to the lfs today and they did have one about 1 1/2" - 2" in length, and they had the baby one too about 1". I have the bigger one on hold and then will probably pick up on tuesday. I'll wait it out, and hopefully if i do get another maroon clown they end up liking each other and then... :happyfish
