This crap has been in my tank for months and i think it is the most unattractive looking thing in the tank! It sucks! Some say it is part of the cycle...but the cycle should be well over my tank is about 6 months old and has a oscellaris clown and a cleaner shrimp in it with 5 snails and 12-14 hermits. What can i do to get rid of it?? HELP!
** Look at the attached image for my tank's problem. **

I may be wrong, but if its diatoms, they often go away after awhile on their own. People who use tap water often get them as well. What kind of water do you use?

Diatoms are single celled, microscopic algae. They often look like a brown sort of scum in the home aquarium. They don't hurt anything, but they're none too pretty.
Diatoms thrive in tanks where there isn't much water movement. Having intense lighting on for too long can also result in a lovely diatom bloom.
Diatoms can usually (emphasis on "usually") be prevented by lots of water movement, a good filtration system (running carbon and/or a protein skimmer), and making sure there isn't any food left in the tank after feeding time.
In your case, since they're already in there, I would just clean it up and then follow the prevention steps above, if you aren't already. If you already are, then I'm not entirely sure what to tell you.
Hope this helps! :)
