How can I tell difference between goniopora & alvepora?

I got scammed into buying a goniopora a while ago, and don't want to make that mistake again. Went to a lfs today, almost bought what I thought was an alvepora, but salesperson said it was a flower pot. They look the same to me! Especially the green ones...
What should I be looking at/for?

count the number of tentacles on each polyp. An alveopora will have 12 tentacles per polyp and a goni will have 24.
