How deep is a DSB ?

After adding LS to my tank over my other sand , my bed is 5-6" is this to deep? Or am I ok ?
the tank is a 35 hex

if it is all sand, and not crushed coral or shells or anythign else,that is perfect, a dsb is 4 ot 6 inches
