How do i calibrate my PH meter

It depends on the Make and model of your Ph meter but basically You need calibration solution or solutions and its best if you can do a two point calibration but you can get away with a single point.
Here are some general instructions, I have only used Hanna instruments so these instructions will fit the use of a Hanna meter well but may differ if you are using a different brand.
For a meter with adjustable POTs:
To do a two point calibration you will need one solution with PH of 7 and another with a PH of 10. There should be a low range and a high range adjustment POT on the meter, start with the PH 7 solution and swish the meter around until the reading stablizes then adjust the low range POT until the meter displays a PH of 7. Now rinse the probe and swish it around in the PH 10 solution until the reading stabilizes then adjust the High range POT so that the meter reads a PH of 10. Last step is to repeat the PH 7 test to verify that the meter still reads correctly if it does not repeat the steps again.
For a meter with an electronic calibration function:
You will have to check the manual to figure out how to get into calibration mode, once there swish the probe in the PH 7 solution until the meter says OK or something similar then it will ask for the second solution. Be sure and rinse the probe well then place it in the PH 10 solution until the meter displays OK rinse the probe and you are finished.
For a single point calibration just use the PH 7 solution steps.

I have one made by American Marine and it calibrated basically the same way that nat said. You use 2 calibration fluids, on the one I have you can use the 7 & 10 or the 7 & 4 and you have to dip in the 7, adjust the meter until it reads exactly 7, then dip in the 4, adjust the meter until it reads exactly 4. I had to do this 3 or 4 times until it reads correctly just by dipping it into the solution. I hope this helps.

My LFS carries it here but I have to ask for it because they keep it in the back. Otherwise any of the Online Aquarium supply vendors carry it. For a saltwater tank you will want to calibrate it on the high range rather than the low so Ph7 and Ph10 rather than than Ph4 and Ph7.
