Build a dam of putty or duct tape and a styrofoam cup** on the side your gonna start drilling form so it holds water to keep the glass cool, and flushes junk from the cutting process. ON the back side put a piece of foam or cardboard over the area the hole will come through, this is to retain the piece after yu drill through, and keep it from falling and hitting the bottom, Its also good idea to put some rags etc on the tank bottom or sides just incase somehting gets bumped or dropped.
**Cut a styrofoam or plastic cups bottom out and adhere it to the tank with duct tape so it encircles the hole and forms a dam. It only needs to be about 1/2 or so inches in height, just high enogh to hold some water. Or have someone apply a steady spray of water to hole as its being drilled.
