How long have you been using the purple up? I am using it right now and it is doing WONDERS for my coraline algae growth. I'd say it took about 2-3 weeks to start seeing it on my lr, but it finally did. My glass and plastics are covered and have been...and it's finally making my rock pretty. I think you just have to give it time.

I'm one of those people without coraline growth. I'm not the only one. Some tanks just seem to explode with it, others do not. I do feel that you need some live rock that has some good growth just to use as a 'seeder', from what I understand. Most of my live rock was only mediocre to start with and it never took off. Now, just recently, I have met up with two folks who tried the 'Purple up' product and swear by it, to get it going. It will take some time..I'd say you might see a difference in a month or so. I'd make sure you have 'some' coraline to start with, and then, maybe try the Purple up to give it a boost. Purple up, or anything else, won't help growth of something that is not already there. Beware of adding to many chemicals to your water though, to solve this situation. You may in fact end up on a roller coaster ride trying to get your levels right and screw something else up. Coraline growth is not a needed thing (albeit cool, to some). I imagine with good parameters, kept in line, that any growth will continue to increase with proper care. Just my 2 cents...

try to scrub the places on ur LR that do have the coraline with a tothbrush into high flow area. this will release the spores of coraline and make it float all aound your tank, settling on other LR. you should see some growth after just few weeks of this.

I'm talking from experience.
Start with Fully Cured LR that has some visible Purple and other Coraline growth to seed/cure your overall Coral growth. You will notice that a certain color of Coral growth will spread to LR that it's touching/in relative proximity.
I got back into this Hobby after 6-8 solid years out. Until recently I just have/eer had an Eclipse top with the standard 18watt Daylight Lamp and a 20w. Kent Marine-glow(blue spectrum but not true ACtinic) that I added.
MY LR WAS GOING crazy with a vatiable plehotra of Coraline colors other then purple(with the above lackluster lighting). I had 3 shades of purple with the solid lumps of Dark puple. Three shades of green and tons of beautiful light and dark red hues.
KEEP YOUR PHOSPHATES as low as possible. In the ocean in general(that which makes up most of it...lol) the phostphate levels are relatively high compared to those of Reef which makes up a tiny minority of total Earth ocean volume. HIgh Phosphate levels will impede on usable calcium and overall coraline growth. You don't want HIgh Phosphates in a Reef tank for shizzle(LOL) why have them in any Marine tank. If your Filtration isn't taking care of buisness and you must turn to a Media.....
SeaChem PhosGuard is awesome realtive to the price.
Tropic Marin Elimi-phos is a great media IME but *heats up* and is overpriced as sin. I'd highly reco you stay away from Elimi-phos because of it's price.
I've never have nor ever will use a *Purple* additive with all due respect to members here. You don't need it IME when you have awesome levels.
FYI I only use good ole CoraLife salt and I run my SG between 1.023-1.025. I've been running 180watts of Daylight and 03 Actinic Compact Floros for the past week and now my Coraline growth is OUTTA CONTROL!!!
Don't settle for boring arse, dead looking LR in this Hobby!!!!
Oh yeah, Using tap water could be a Huge reason for your lack of Puprle and Overall Coraline. Nobody wants a slow Coral growth and their LR and Algea blooms from crappy tap water!
