Hey people, my tank is 6 months old today! I finally decided to get an anemone. 3 questions -
How can I handle an anemone? Like, can I pick it up by it's foot after I acclimate it?
What food? Silverslides or I have jumbo krill that I feed my puffer?
Last, does anyone have experience with ordering an anemone from SWF.com? If so, which anemone ships best?
I have a false perc........

if u hv the right conditions, any anemone will do fine. swf.com ships anemones with very little water. this is to prevent ammonia buildup. once u get it, just temp acclimate it for 30 min, then dump the anemone into the tank. the anemone will shivel up at the beginning, but after a few days, should open up nicely.

To help you further it would be best to get more info on about your tank and set up. How big is the tank? How deep is it? What type of lighting do you have? How many bulbs? How many watts? The answers to these questions will determine how when and if you should or need to feed your anemone. Also what type of anemone are you considering? As for handling them, gently under the foot you can hold them like baseball just dont squeeze. HTH

More info would be nice but I feed my rose anemone silversides and as for handling just place it in it's selected spot very gently as anemones are very delicate. If your worried about getting stung you don't have to worry you only get stung 1% of the time and it doesn't really hurt anyway. Hope this helps

I have a 20g with a 50 watt T5 lighting system, 125 Penguin Bio-Wheel, and a 120 gph powerhead. I have a valentini puffer, a false perc, a scooter blenny, a bunch of blue leg hermits, a fighting conch, about 30 lbs LR, 20 lbs LS, and a few soft and hard coral.

Oh, and thanks. So, if I do accidently touch the tentacles (0n any anemone?) I most likely will not be hurt? What will it feel like?
And I would like a bubble tip or hadoni but, from my research, I don't think I could house a hadoni anemone with a 20g?

IMO I dont think you can house any anemone with your set up. You wont get hurt by their stings although some people are more sensitive than others so on more delicate parts of your arm or a cut you could feel an uncomfortable sensation. A healthy anemones tenticles are sticky, thats about all you feel. Your lighting if its Hight output T5's and they are individually reflected may be ok for a bubble tip. IMO it is still lacking a bit but it might work.

We have been very successful at feeding anemones food that is chopped up, even frozen krill that seems small enough for an anemone. When we last had anemones, we fed it big pieces of food and every so often, stringy stuff would be coughed up by the anemone. Now with the new tank and new anemones, we give it very small amounts of chopped up seafoods and such - have never seen them spit out anything and they are very big and healthy. Anemones don't have complicated digestive systems so smaller is better in my opinion.
