NewFishLINY,
What up !
If you're talking about making 20 gallons of super saline saltwater to add to your 60 some odd gallons of low salinity water - and try to end up at 1.023 or whatever - not a good idea in my opinion.
Saltmix is manufactured to mix to full natural seawater strength - not a lot more - not a lot less.
I know other's would disagree - but if you're still setting up your tank - I would mix up 10-15 gallon batch of maybe 1.026 -1.030 MAX, and begin to slowly add this to the tank - little by little - with powerheads moving the water around really good.
After an hour or so, take a S.G. reading and see where you're at.
Add just a few gallons of this higher saline water at a time.
Stop - wait - measure - repeat.
Keep doing this little by little until you reach your desired level.
If you're tank's water level ( full or not ) still need more water - then add S.G. of your final end desired specific gravity ( a batch of 1.023 or 1.024 ) or whatever you want it to be at.
I would avoid making a batch of super salty water - with the attempt to try and hit it right at the full tank mark.
One or two gallons at a time - slowly - and you'll finally get there without overshooting, or messing up the saltwater chemistry.
If you fall short of a full tank - remove several gallons of "weak" saltwater - and repeat the slow process of adding just a little bit stronger saltwater.
Obviously - if you can aerate the newly mixed saltwater overnight w/powerhead - all the better.

BROOMER" YOUR ALRIGHT "
I can count on you , what if I pump out 5 gallons at a time to a bucket, then mix and put back in tank. Does that sound retarded.
Hey that might work , I smell the wood burning thanks

WOW Don !!
Even better idea !
As long as you go slow ( which your procedure will force you to ;) ) then you'll be in good shape.
Good luck - good idea ( writing it down in my brain ) :D
p.s. ? what wood you got burning over there ?

Hey Broomer "right" now I am doing the bucket
line ,emptying into 4 five gallon buckets mixing
the right salinity and pumping back into the tank.
I'm waiting for fed x over night , bought some stuff from fosters.
I rather buy from my local shop's but when I just spent $500.00
on goods and then I went on line it was 97.00 dollars cheaper!
everyone needs to make a liveing "but" 7.49 for a hydrom and in the store he charged me 15.99 that insulted my inteligent's.
the store gives greaT SERVICE , BUT LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE YOU PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT TO BUY FROM EACH STORE.
I own a retail store so I know all about this , our service is the best around , many 15% higher and then prices are right up there with the big boys .
Have a good day
