I have a 30 gallon, but i want to make a (not sure which one i want as i really don't know which one does what) refugium/sump. I saw a post earlier the had 3 sections in a seperate tank. 1 section was a pump into the tank, the other was LR with LS, and the 3rd was a return pump. What does this do? I have plenty of 10 gallon aquariums.

A sump/refugium will -
give you more water capacity )more volume = more stable)
eliminate equipment in your display tank
add to the filtering ability of your tank
help with dissolved O2 levels
make water changes and supplement additions easier on tank as you no longer add directly to display tank.
Divide sump into at least 3 sections
first will have blue filter material to remove particulates and under it more LR for filtration
second will have skimmeer, carbon filtration, heaters, etc.
third will be return pump area.
If a larger tank was used you could install a section before the return section and put sand, some rock, and macro algae in it for the refugium section (but in your ten 3 will be ok)
