how do i make a sump

i am going to make a 55 gal. reef so how do i make a sump? i dont know anything about it. can i get some help?

is it worth just buying the 200 dollar sump? looks like something i will mess up and flood the house <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />

ok i got it mixed up what i really want is how to make a refugium. and hook it up to a sump probably one i buy at the lfs those look easyier to use. can i get any help on that one?
