I'm starting a 150 g FOWLR and I wanted to know how to calculate gph. Is it water that is actually circulated and filtered outside the tank? Or do powerheads placed inside the tank that don't really fliter anything count too?

powerheads and return pumps contribute to the flow of the tank.
when it comes to the return pumps, don't go by "max" gph on it, there's flow restrictions that lower the gph rating.
