i use a razor blade and just basically peel the film away. easiest most effective way IMO.

I use a scraper or an old credit card for now. I'm getting a mag-float soon though. If you use a magnet, it doesn't really do anything you need to prepare for, it just drags a scraper around on the inside so that you don't have to reach in with one.

I've use: windshield scraper, 2" plastic scraper, magnet cleaner, brillo pad.
Magnet: ok, but doesn't get the hard algae. Also may leave streaks on the outside glass that needs to be cleaned too.
Winshield scraper: works great and has a large surface area too
Plastic scraper: good
Brillo pad: ok, but takes a lot of time for the hard algae.
Hope this helps

I use a magnetic scraper. Don't use Brillo!!! They have soap built in, it will decimate your whole system. I think he means steel wool pads.

Thanks for the catch.
My mistake, not a brillo pad. I meant the sponge with an abrasive side to it and without any soap or chemicals added to it.

#1 start with the mag float,, tho get the first crap off.. then for the tougher stuff, they make a long pole, with interchangeable heads, with either scraper, or scrubber, it even has a little basket to scoop things out of. I love it.. I think its by marineland..

Just to clarify, DO NOT use any "kitchen" sponges or such. ONLY buy sponges that are basically for aquariums. Many kitchen sponges have stuff in them that can be detrimental for a tank.

on the acryllic nano I use an acryllic mag float and a credit card for the heavy stuff, on my glass tanks I use a mag float and razor blades for the heavy stuff.

That's your coraline algea and you don't want anything to eat it, cause it will eat it off your rock too. Even the ones that the regular algea leave tracts behind so you'll still need to clean.
