I don't live with my mom or have a wife, but in a house with two other roommates. As long as I clean up, it's gravy. They just get mad when I leave the measuring cups to encrust with salt, spilled water, etc. Just give it time and make sure you keep everything nice and clean.

I'm lucky, my wife is pretty cool about it and doesn't complain that much about it. We entertain a lot and the tank always gets a lot of comments, which she likes. Also, she spends enough money on her little things, so she can't really complain if I drop a couple of dollars on something.

we have an RO unit built into our sink, and it makes around 2 gallons, then you cant get anymore water out of it.
Every time I do a water change I use a gallon to fill up my topoff water, and a gallon to mix with salt. And everytime she freaks out "stop using all the water!! it only makes 2 gallons a day!! what am I supposed to use for coffee!! TEA!! KOOLAID!!! etc."
she just doesnt understand that it stops after 2 gallons, and it takes less then half an hour for it to fill back up again.

LOL!!!
I guess I am lucky in that my wife truly enjoys the tank just as much as I do. There has been more than one time I've come to find her with her arm in the tank, squirting Joe's Juice on an aiptasia or moving a coral that has fallen over. She also loves the attention it gets when we have friends or family over. I can tell that she is as proud of it as I am.

Well I dont have the same issues I guess as others do. I buy what I want when I want and thats that. But I guess it is also the same for her. Usually my orders that dont go for resale are generally in the display tank for the business. Write off.....

Yes you are lucky because if i found my wife with her hands in my tank i would dunk her head in it for about five minites.Just jokeing she loves the tank she just hates that i give my tank more time than her and the kids.I like it when everytime i come back from my lfs the first words are (well how much did that cost)

have you ever tried to get your wife/mom interested in the hobby?? take her to the lfs with you and pick out a fish or name one of your fish or something like that. us women are more understanding and supportive if we feel like we're involved. most of the time our whining and moaning is just we're not getting enough attention or feel excluded.

thats the trick get em involved! My gf and mom get me stuff for the tank lol and its all the time :) My mom likes it cuz I do all the work for it, and people really like to see it. Friends and family come over all the time makes the work just a little more worth it

my g/f hates when i do a water change cuz she is somewhat of a neat freak and i am semi-neat...so when i do water changes i bust out EVERYTHING and it is EVERYWHERE!!!

the mess i made when the return hose came off the return pump...and it is similar to that when i do a water change

my g/f loves going to the fish store and looking at the tank but when it comes to the maintenance part of it she is still whining and moaning..."do you have to make such a mess every time", "you need to have some organization to this room (refers to the room i keep all my supplies)"....she dont help keep it up so i ignore her cries for organization....i should note that once i am finished with the change everything is picked up and tucked away out of sight

My wife has her own tank. I like SPS, LPS, mushrooms and clams; shes into zoas, acans, and blastos.........so its actually kind of nice to have the two different tanks with different stuff to do. Its funny we have actually have a nice little system when it comes to chores, ie I make the water, she does the testing and fragging, I do aquascaping and the cleaning. Then again, we are pretty much the same person, same education, same career, same interests etc.....
