You have to have some to start like from a piece of LR. With the right levels of calcium and alkalinity you should grow it fine. It doesn't need high intensity lighting just normal output, actually I've noticed coraline dosen't grow well under my 250w MH bulbs. Try dosing Bionic 2 part additive or a similar product to raise and keep cal and alk stable.
