How do you get that canister filter flowing

Does anybody have an easy, non-aggrevating way of getting the suction of water flow going in a canister filter after a cleaning? Everytime I clean out the filter, I have a heck of time getting the water flowing again! VERY aggrevating. The end result is: I don't do the change as often as I should.

I agree. Just hooked up 2 Fluval 404's. You have to fill them to the top to remove the air, then the suction will start the water flowing thru the tubes.

MY EHIEM ECCO HAS SELF PRIMING, LOWER THE HANDLE HALF WAY WHICH RAISES THE LID ALITTLE WHICH CAUSES A VACUUM IN THE CANISTER. WAIT ABOUT 5 SEC. FOR THE CANISER TO FILL, RAISE THE HANDLE BACK TO THE LOCK POSITION AND TURN IT ON. SOME OF THE EITHER EHIEMS HAVE AN ATATCHMENT FOR THE INLET TUBE TO POUR WATER DOWN.

I really got tired of this exact problem. It drove me NUTS. If you can, go get the new Fluvals which are self priming. (they have a little plunger deal on the top which you just push up and down and voila, it also has auto shut off to the tubes so as soon as you lift the lid, the hoses are blocked, no installing disconnect valves. They are awesome.

You must have told at least 6 people to do this! I think out of everyone Beth knows where she wants this to be seen. Others may not know, but Beth is a moderator and has been at this site for a while. She knows where to put a thread.

Yes I've heard of it.

I have a Fluval 404 on my 125, and it is a pain in the butt to get going again, even with the self-primer. Usually, I have to have hubby prime it for me.
