How do you keep your white sandbed WHITE?

I've had my tank up for 1 year. It is a 26 bowfront that i've turned into a reef. I have a hang on filter, skimmer, about 30 lbs of live rock. I have 2 powerheads and 130 pc lighting with 2 daylight bulbs and 2 actinics. my white sand bed looks so beautiful, but it is always covered with algae. I have seen other tanks in which the white sandbed is totally clean and white. How do i keep it WHITE? The only way it looks white is when a turbo snail goes across it or i scrape the algae off of the sand.
Please help!

I don't know what your live stock is, but My Diamond Goby -- learned he gets 5 -6 inches!! at full grown size (i recently learned). He sifts my sand looking for things to eat but I don't know if he will eat algae (maybe someone else know's) This would be ideal once you get the algae problem away, this goby can keep your sand continuously clean. My turbo's and hermits are constantly walking the sand and maybe someone can shed light if this would be an efficient means of getting rid of the algae on the sand!!

If you get a diamond goby be sure you have a glass top or egg crate or something. Mine went carpet surfing this weekend. :scared:

Keonia, What store on Richmond Rd. are you buying from? I do business with a couple LFS and it is hit or miss with BOTH. I actually bought my goby from one of them on Richmond Rd. he was prety cool.
My goby did a great job in the 48 hours I had him!!!!
I will diffently buy another after I fish proof the tank....

Hey Itchy,
There's 2 that I know of, and the one next to krogers -- ummm I prefer the one next to the liquor store!! Good combination huh?

I dont know if we can mention names of stores on this website. If you have messenger you can ad me at keonia2003 (yahoo). I wonder if this saltwater.com will ever post a "fishbowl" chat inwhich all members can talk live? wouldnt that be neat!
Sixers -- have you checked into the tonga snails? they are not that expensive either, but I would guess that you would need a bunch of those.

hey keonia, I have messenger on my desk top but not on this lap top. Be careful when buying from either place. Hope you have a QT. Most local places are hit or miss. Will IM you when I get a chance.
Sorry don't want to highjack the thread!!!!
