How do I measure this? I have testing kits for my Ph, Buffer Zone, Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate. I also own a Hydrometer. Is this all I need or is there more.

by buffer zone(look into your test kit), do they refer to kh or carbonate hardness, if so lthis would be your alkalinity
Alkalinity is a key part of your system, some life forms need it to grow, in addition to the fact if your alk is outta whack, you will not be able to stabalize your ph level properly
another thng you may want to look into testin is your calcium, some algaes and inverts need calcium for growth

You can buy a separate test kit for alkalinity, and it would be a good idea to get one as well as one for calcium, as alkalinity, pH, and calcium go hand in hand. The majority of the corals and inverts that you put in your tank, including beneficial coralline algae, will use these elements, to grow and propagate, so it is essential that these elements be monitored correctly
