how do you uv Sterilizers work?

how do they work where would they go if i had a sump? in the sump on the side of the tank, do they need a pump? how much watts for a 125?

Hey see it as no one else will answer your question I will try to help U.V. units are for killing parasites that are in there free floating stage of the development so if you have a fish with ick then it won't kill the ick thats on the fish just the ick thats in the water so bye killing the free floating ick the fish can easily fight of the ick(unless it is very weak).
If you get one there are many different models and types to choose from you could get a hang on the back type that goes in the tank or you could get a in sump model if you have a sump then it is best to get one for that type of application.
They do need a pump they generaly don't come with a pump(unless you buy it of a website that offers it as a package deal)this isn't really a bad thing you see bye not coming with a pump it allows you to choose a pump size that can better suit your needs see because the slower the water moves through the uinit the more it will kill so if you have a tank with fish more pron to getting a parasite then you will want to use a pump that is slower thus allowing a higher kill rate but if you have fish that are less pron to ick then a faster pump could be used to allow a higher water processing rate.
As for how many watts for your tank 15 to 25 depending on your bio load.
Now you just need to find one that best suits your needs.
Hope this helps.

Definatly DO NOT GET ONE without the Quartz sleeve. This sleeve also intensifies the bulbs efectivness, and prolongs bulb life by keeping it from coming in direct contact with the water. Some manufacturers also offer a "wiper" that allows you to wipe off/clean the quartz sleeve without dismantaling the unit...Both options are a must...
