how does a coral attach to a rock?

My lfs told me to lightly wrap a rubber band my xenia and a rock and in a day it should attach. Well I did that the weight of a sinking rubber band looks as if it is strangling the xenia. Anybody know of a way to make this xenia attach?

You could tie fishing line around it and weave it inbetween the polyps (I beleive xenia has polyps you can weave between). It won't take long to attach, just tie the fishing line tight enough it won't easily move but not tight enough it rips it in half or kills it.
My green star polyps haven't attached yet, I'm guess half of the reason is because I keep poking them to see if they are attached... .

you can use an apoxy to attach your coral to the LR, or even superglue gel. I know this sounds absurd, but Ive been told it is safe, and I have tried it and had no problems.
As long as your water quality is good, your Xenia will do good. Even if it looks like it is strangling, it will probably just then split, and you'll have 2 Xenia frags.

I would get some small rubble rock pieces and pile them up.Place the loose Xenia on the rocks and it should attach overnight. Then you can move the small rock it has attached to anywhere you want in the tank.Just make sure that there is not any direct flow or it will get moved someplace else.I would use this method to frags i scraped off the glass. Then once they were attached I could trde them in at the local fish store.

Himandher is right. You can use superglue gel. The pile of rocks sound like a really good idea too.
