what made you consider a fluidized bed filter? that is old technology. i'd just get a decent protein skimmer, some live rock, and call it a day.

What kind of protein skimmer do you have if you don't mind me asking? how do you find its performance?

IMO they're more trouble than they're worth. A good skimmer, rock, and a DSB is really all you need.
