I have 2x200 watt visi therm heaters and would like to move them to my sump but it is only deep enough to submerge them about half way. Is this enough?

Isn't there any kind of marking on the body of the heater???? I would think you'd want them more than 1/2 way.....JMO

I have one of those heaters, and mine has a line that marks the minimum water level. It's definitely higher than 1/2 way up the heater.
Gerry_e, I suggest you look at your heater carefully to make sure that your water level is safely above the line. FWIW, these heaters can also be mounted in a non-vertical position.

That's what I was going to suggest, I have a heater in my MegaFlow 3 sump stuck on the bottom horizontally.

Submersable heaters need to be submersed.
Quick funny lfs guy story. I was in charge of returns at the warehouse. A lfs owner wanted to return 24 heaters, he said they were defective. The glass was shattered on all of them. When I asked him what happened he said "the dang things heated up real good, but then they blowed up as soon as we stuck'm in the water.". No, I did not give him his money back.

Ouch, my roomate just learned that lesson as well. I just got a whole set of glasses and stemware at IKEA. She was heating butter up in one of my new glasses for crab legs. Heated it too long, the butter went everywhere... she took the glass right out of the microwave and into the sink, then ran the cold water seconds before I got there... blew up real good...
