do 10% water changes once a week. Change carbon once a month use my mag float when ever there is growth on front and side glass. That is about it.

If you keep up with it and make it part of your daily routine to maintain it-then its not that hard! But it is something that requires work for sure! A labor of love! :happyfish :happyfish

Its the money for all the equipment thats the big pain. regular up keep with the tank can be very easy... depending on what type of saltwater tank.
you can set tanks up that are "self automated" but that gets very expensive..
Saltwater is
more time spent
more money
more research
more headaches if you don't research
more options
more addicting
more rewards

Absolutely. I have many fresh tanks as well. With the salt, just be patient with your original stocking. Once your tank is stocked and stable, it is no different than maintaining a freshwater tank. Keep up on water changes and keep monitoring your levels, piece of cake!!!!!

How do you get a bunch of soaked towels? I get a damp one when I pull my arm out and wipe off the glass.

It is not hard but does require frequent cleaning. If you miss you schedule you will have more to do! Sunlight is also "bad" as it does cause more stuff to grow.

To keep my tank "looking" clean I dont have to do hardly anything. Run the magfloat across the glass about twice a week and use a blade scraper about once a year. overflow box needs cleaning every 1-2wks.The water itself stays clear on its own. Reef tanks shouldn't need alot to stay clean. I dont have a wet/dry or HOB to clean, just a fuge I dont do anything to. Clean the skimmer collection cup about once a week and the skimmer itself about once every 6 months but even if I dont do that the display tank will "look" clean. I do water changes about every 3wks to insure nitrates remain low and trace elements but if I went on looks alone I'd never do water changes.

OK small exaggeration, maybe not soaked, but still need laundering. The tank is on the mantle across the hardwood floor from the sink. Carrying water from the tank in small containers, I have to carry it holding a towel under it. One towel goes over the wrought iron fireplace front.
Sorry so long an answer, but you asked.

And I do tend to have my hands in there more than just once!

Also, keep in mind many people are posting their problems asking for advice. The people who's tanks are clean and easy to maintain aren't asking for advice. If you go buy the threads started, I think you get a lopsided view of the saltwater world becuase you only hear about the things that have gone wrong. Too bad no one ever starts a "wow my tank is so clean and problem free" thread to help encourage newbies along.
