I have a Reefstar 400W with a 14k HQI bulb...
How high above the water should I keep the light? This thing gets hot.

Really.... It's suppose to be that high. That should help with the heat issue.
Now the tank is about 26" deep. Will I still have good enough light for Claims Anemones?

I was told that if you want to use your bulbs to the fullest you should start them at 15” and move them closer to the water as they get older so at the end of there life “1year” the bulbs should be about 10” from the water.
And with a 400w you should have it high so your stuff can adjust to the new high powered light.
