How high should I stack rocks to the surface?

I've been trying to see a lot of pics of different rock set ups. I have about 110 pounds in my 125 that is pretty much scattered from left to right evenly and is pretty much just down the center of the tank- front to back. I was thiking about rearranging it so that it's a little more stacked in the center with caves and openings. Just wondering how high is too high to the surface of the water. I have all the materials to make my own rock which I'll eventually start and add after the 6 week curing process, so maybe 3 months down the road or so I'll start adding my own rock to beef it up to 2#'s per gallon but in the meantime.....

its more personal preference and what u want it to look like..it may take several attempts to get it the way u want it..and think it looks good..

Is any of that rock leaning against the back glass? I know if I were to stomp on the floor it shakes my tank a little so I need to make sure it won't tumble if not very secure. Is yours glued or secured together to keep it like that? Looks like you have rock as high as a few inches from the water line.

it is leaning against the glass..and very sturdy..i waved as much water at it around it and against it until it did not move..i have 2 kids..one is 3.5 always jumping..running..mine is not glued just well placed..( good thing to do) yes it is just a bit under the water line..its all in the placement

As long as it's not sticking out of the water go for it.

None of this is glued, at all? That's impressive, great rock work.

here's my 80 lbs in my 75.

it is a little different cause i had some stackign issues on the left side, but it is now very stable, without leaning on the glass.

I also have a 125 gallon tank. On the right side, it isn't stacked to high up. But on the right side, it seems that it is a little higher. I don't know, since I have corals, I make sure all the corals are submerged. Here are a couple of pictures to give you and idea. I would love to totally redo all my rock to give me more shelves for corals!! Good luck!

I'll keep the shelf idea in mind. Good call. Thanks for the pics. I will probably go no higher than 3-4 " from the surface. I'll post here when I get around to it, maybe this weekend.
