how is algae pronounced

how is algae pronounced? is it like al-"G" or... al-"J". ive always pronounced it al"g" but my bio teacher pronounces it al"j" so im confused.

Don't correct your bio teacher. That would be extremely bad form. Just remember that school is not real life. In the world its Al-G but in Mr. whoever's class its Al-J.

what gets me is walking innto my LFS and asking about actinic lights i pronounce it "actnic" and he always pronounces "ac-tin-nic" lights ---makes me feel slow. what are the other ones yall have trouble with .??
ohh and metal halide
i say hal- like the name- ide
he tells me haylide .......messes me up man...
