a lot of ppl have there own water change schedule
wen i started this hobby, i really didnt have time for a 10% water change every week, so i do a once a month, 30% water change
so its up to u
if its been up for about a month, then do a 20% water change, and then start doin a 10% change weekly after that if u have the time

Smaller more frequent water changes are best. What are your readings? Do you have anything in the tank yet? Diatoms feed off of nitrates. If you reduce the nitrates then the diatoms (brown ugly mess) won't last as long.

Might as well get into a weekly habit. If you can, get a 5 gallon bucket with a lid to mix salwater in. Use half one week, and save the other half for the next.
