can ick go unseen for a long period of time?
i have a clownfish that has gone through hypo before but it looks like it has a spot or something but i dont think it is ick.
if it is ick, how long can it go unseen for?
and i also have a tang that is in hypo right now and he has 2 spots of ick on his fin. i started hypo rather then qting him. the sg is 1.009 right now and has been for 2 days and today is the first day that i have seen ick on him at all.
i am starting to doubt how well hypo works, and i dont want the ick to disappear until i put him back in my dt and then have it come back again. thats just what i dont need.
thanks for any info

Ich can go unseen for years. It can be in the tank but not infecting a fish enough to see with the

eye.
I'm confused, you said you have fish in Hypo but not Qting it?
Hypo is a 3 week regime I believe. Check Beth's thread in the disease forum.

he is in a qt tank. i didnt wait for ick to be visible. i started hypo the day after i got him. since at the store there were fish in the same tank or on the same filter system i am sure he has had a chance to get ick and just wasnt showing it.
so basically what i would like to know. exactly how effective is hypo? does it always work when done correctly?

As I understand it, 100% effective if you do it 100% correctly.

some people say different sg then 1.009. that is what MOST people say here, but on other boards i hear other things sometimes higher then that.
what is the absolutle lowest a swf could withstand?

what is the lowest a fish could take and what is the highest it takes to rid a fish of ick?
and my tang now has 1 dot on his body. not on a fin or eye.
im not sure if ick is raised off of the fish or if it would be flat. the dot that i am seeing is defiantly raised off of the tangs body.

Peck have you looked at Beth's disease thread? Could lymphocytis(sp) be a possiblity? Good luck though.

no i dont think it is that. it is just one single spot. maybe it is just a tiny piece of sand because it wasnt there earlier today.
like i said, there are no other spots on the fish so maybe nothing is wrong with him at all.. it would be more then one spot if it was something right? there was nothing on him before i started hypo
