How long does this stuff take to clear up??????

I switched to ls last night, and now the tank looks like I poured milk in it. Every thing is covered in fine dust(even in the sump). 60lbs of ls, 30lbs of aragomax oolite(rinsed first). I put a whisper 60 on the tank to help out. I am going to lfs when they open, to get a poly filter pad. Meanwhile the resident false perc. and dottyback are in a rubbermaid tub with all the baserock, a heater, and a powerhead(dottyback got into a piece of the rock and wouldn't come out). I need to get this tank cleared up....quickly. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
B

Really about the only thing you can do is to keep changing the filter elements in your Whisper and rinse out any filter media in your wet/dry often. Mechanical filtration will help, but you really can't safely speed up a tank that is clearing. Just gotta wait til the suspended sediments are either filtered out or settle on their own.
You won't gain a lot using the poly filter, regular ole filter floss or DSL material will work fine. Just rinse it in some old saltwater, or change it A LOT.
Good luck - hope it clears soon.

B, it can take anywhere from 8 hours to several days. Believe me, if your case is the several days one, it seems like an eternity.

If you need it cleared up quickly, see if your LFS rents diatom filters. The filter will clear it up in no time.

Went to lfs this morning, and he loaned me a magnum 350 to put on the tank till it clears. So I guess I'd better bite the bullet, and get my cleanup crew from him(even though it's 40 bucks cheaper here). He gives me all the rodi water I need, and if I talk direcly to him,(not his flunkies) he will usually cut me a decent deal. Offered me an 8 bulb PC, nearly new for 300 bucks complete. Wish I didn't need a case of LR so bad, I would buy it in a second.
Thanks, everyone.

Sounds like a rare find....a decent LFS......
On the cloudy water....I've been thru it also......I used 3 mechanical filters to speed it along....changed and clean media often...mine took evening/night/and by mid-morn was clear enough to replace LR........fish and critters that same evening.........corals etc the next morn....I just tried really had to keep everything stable and as stress free as possible while I waited.......nerve wrackin I know ....but the end result was well worth the effort...........

I was planning to replace the 50 lbs. of what is now baserock(it died due to copper & hyposalinity), but I am a bit worried about copper being released into the water(no-one told me to take it out first :( ). So It's in a rubbermaid tub with the two small fish that were in the tank, and a powerhead, and heater. I've been testing the water in the tub every day, and no trace of anything(ammo.,trites, trates, or copper) It's been 4 days. So I guess my question is: can I use this rock in my tank safely. I also ordered 25lbs. of LR from this site yesterday, to reseed it, if it is safe to use. It's been well over 2 months since the copper was in the tank(and I didn't do full treatment in the show tank, I moved the fish to a 20 gal hosp. to finish), and I've done countless water changes while using hyposalinity(salinity is finally back to normal). I have also been using cuprisorb in the sump for 2 months. I am also going to switch to pc's this week, so I can keep some corals. If anyone sees a potential problem, please let me know. And please don't get upset about all the newbie mistakes, I've learned from ALL of them.
Thanks,
B
Oh yeah, the tank is nearly clear. Now I have to scrub the glass and sump to get rid of the film that is on everything.
