How long for a juvi cowfish to grow horns?

I got my cowfish last friday, and they had one that already had horns, but I chose to get the one that had no horns because I thought it would be neat to watch him grow them! Ive heard cowfish grow fast, just wondering if anyone else knew about how long it takes to notice their horn growth?

In your profile, I says you have a 29 gallon tank. If that is correct this may have been a bad choice of fish. They can get up to a foot and a half. And if they die the toxin they have can kill everything in the tank especially in one that small. If that is not accurate, make sure that there are no large fast swimming aggerssive fish in your tank as they could stress him out.
They are cool fish though.....I like their unique swimming and personality....like a puffer but docile.....Are you going to upgrade to keep him?

I'm not going to be able to upgrade for awhile because I'm laid off right now, so I really shouldn't even be buying fish right now, but I cant help it!
If he does get too big, I can transfer him to my dads tank, i think his is a 120. Just sucks because I'm 26 years old and dont live with my dad, so I wouldn't get to see him all the time, but Ive done that with other fish that got too big too. Needly to say my dad loves me having a tank because I raise these really nice fish and then give them to him when they get bigger! lol I hope it doesn't come to that. Alot of people have been telling me a 29 gallon would be enough as long as I had the right stuff in with him. Even swf.com says just a 55 should be used, so 29 really isn't too far off.

I am honestly telling you that it is inaccurate. You cannot have a fish that big in a 55 gallon. I wish they would update it. It is cool that your dad has room for him though. Hopefully the move doesn't stress him and cause him to release the toxins into your dad's tank.......
I don't mean to be a downer to you. I just think this may have been the wrong choice. And I didn't answer your original question. I am not sure about their horns honestly. Good luck...

I've read on other web sites that they can grow huge , as in too big to turn around in a 55g , as they don't bend like other fish can...the bigger the better for this fish.

I wish people would stop telling people this.It never happens. They don't release there toxin when they die.It only happens when the are severely threatened and they think they are going to be killed.I have not heard of one releasing there toxin in a tank in like 20 years. So please people stop telling everyone this and scaring people for no reason. And as for size yes they do get big.But they grow slow and i have only ever seen one over a foot and it was brought in straight from the ocean to a store.

Dude that is honestly sad that you would say that, a 55g is a minimum that SWF suggest and I think it is a bad suggestion. A full grown would need a 180to be happy for life. You oughtta think before you just go buy, it isn't fair to the fish. and in your avatar, if that is your 29g, your hippo tang is doomed too.
