How long should I wait till I get fish?

I set up a 55 gallom tank a little under a month ago. I tried to put a Yellow tang in it but it was to stressed so I took it back. I have had 20 lbs of live rock in it. How long should I wait till I get another tang or something similar?

your gonna need to test the water for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. this will let you now when the tank is done cycling and then you can add a fish. you want the ammonia and nitrite to be zero and you should see some nitrate on the test. imo only add one fish and wait, go slow and you shouldn't run into any problems. good luck

Also, a tang wouldnt be the best decision as a first fish. For one reason, they need mature stable tanks with algae to forage on inorder to do well, for another, they can become very agessive towards any new fish introduced to the tank. Try and find out what you would like to have in there for fish and then stock first with something hardy and small, and as the tank matures you can add a smaller tang, maybe, later down the road.
