how long to keep shrimp in when cycling?

I'm cycling my 29 gal QT. I've had a cocktail shrimp in there for 12 days now. My ammonia is at 0.7 but I'm not reading any nitrites yet. At what point do I remove the shrimp?

I'd take it out now, you'll probably have some leftover "debris" that falls off of it floating around in the tank when you take it out that will raise the ammonia a bit more yet too.

Yes take it out, especially if it looks like it has a cocoon around it. You have started the cycle.

There is definitely some white "fuzz" starting to grow on it. Thanks for the info!

But... after you take it out, ghost feed the tank occasionally. You always want a small source of food for your Ammonia fixing bacteria.
No reason to starve them.
