I put on in today i got from safeway, its been in there all day and my tank now has the awesome "im cycling" aroma about it. Since this is the first tank IM cycling and isnt a friends how long should i leave the shrimp in for?
alright thanks guys, its definitely stinky so im guessing the cycle started, im going to my lfs after class and lunch so ill get it tested then. Hopefully i can take that sucker out
sooo i got my water tested, ammonia is close to 1ppm everything else was 0. Should i leave the shrimp in their still or take it out? I got about 7-8 pounds of lr and 10 pounds of live sand

Take it out. You might have to do a large water change before you begin to add livestock to get rid of the high nitrates that the ammonia will cause.
+1, 40-50% should be good. Now just keep checking your parameters every few days to keep an eye on everything plus it is a good time to figure out how to use the testing equipment, at least it was for me
yeah...im too poor at the moment for testing equipment, i know how to use it all when i do buy it, i tested a lot of water in my day haha, i just gotta go to my lfs to have them test it. Ill take the shrimp out now and just wait for my nitrites to start going up as the cycle moves along
