how long to run skimmer?

I'm wondering how long people run their skimmers for on their tanks - do you run it nonstop, or for 24 hours once a week, or as needed?
I've got a 20 gallon and a 65 gallon, both have filters on them (the 20 has a HOB whisper, and the 65 has a HOT magnum). Both run carbon, which gets changed frequently.
How often should I run the skimmers on each tank, and for how long?

it depends what you have. i run mine 24/7
but i know that there are people who own filter feeders like spounges or carnations, who run their only 12 hours a day or so to make sure that the skimmer doesnt take out all of the natrual food
hey rick: why do you turn yours off for feeding? ive heard of this being done, but have never done it or seen anyone say why.... is it because of the reason i stated above? are you feeding something like marine snow to corals?
