How many Clowns?

We have a mated pair of perc.clowns in our 55 gallon. It sprang a leak yesterday, just a small one. Hubby is going to LFS right now to purchase a new tank, either a 75 gallon or a 90 gallon. I am hoping he picks the 90. In either case, we also have 2 black and white clowns in the QT. They are absolutely beautiful and look very healthy. Can they be added to the 75 or 90g tank with the first two? I had in mind to add the b/w clowns first and then the older, larger clowns to hopefully reduce any rivalry.
Thoughts????

Sounds like you have the right idea. I would add the b/w first like you said just as a precautionary measure, even though it will be a new tank for everyone and none of them will have an established territory. Two pair of clowns in a 90 will be fine. Sorry about the leak but if it gets you a new tank, I'm jealous. Maybe I'll drill a hole in mine and see if my wife will let me upgrade.
Good luck!

I think it depends entirely on where the pairs decide to make their home.. you could be ok, or you could end up with at least two dead clownfish.
Territorial fish don't look at a 90 gallon aquarium and parse off half for each. They look for the prime habitat and claim it. If both pair want the same area you're in trouble (or better yet the smaller clowns are in trouble)

I was going off the premis that there were multiple hosting locations ie: anemones, lps, ect.... Guess I should've asked instead of assumed. Good point #1.

We have 2 Sebae anemones. At least I hope we do once the new tank is up and running. We are working on that right now. So, yes, 2 hosting locations, but willing to add a third if we can find another Sebae. We actually do quite well with those, and not BTA's.

Personally I wouldnt add any more anemone to the tank. You could always mix it up with some frogspawn/hammer/torch... I really dont know why I'm saying this cause I'm sure you know they host in those, rambling means bedtime... Goodnight and goodluck with the clowns, I'm interested to hear how they do...

Actaully, you weren't rambling.... great suggestions! I had read that clowns host them, but had forgotten as it was a long night last night switching out our leaky 55g for a brand new 90g!
Happy Independence Day!

I wouldn`t mix another species especially with a mater pair . It might stop them or delay spawning .

Not that we want them to stop spawning, but we can't get the eggs to hatch, so until we get a breeding tank, trying to keep the eggs isn't really viable for us. Hubby and I haven't learned how to properly hatch the eggs and take care of the fry. Perhaps when our own kids are bigger....

Anyhoo, we already added the b/w's in and they are just too cute. We were afraid of Nemo being angry about that. We had no choice but to put her and "No Name" in the tank, cuz water was getting cold in the buckets (we had a leak in the old tank). This morning we put in the b/w and they follow Nemo wherever she goes. At this point, Nemo doesn't seem to mind, but we are keeping a close eye on things. Here's a pic....

Ahh, those guys are awesome... I want a pair of b/w percs now. Did you get them at your LFS?
Oh, and what are you gonna do with the old tank? That would make a pretty sweet sump/refuge...

Yes, we got them at our LFS at a real nice price. Hubby hand picked the two he thought were male and female.
Hubby is going to repair the leaky spot and we will probably keep it as a back up. A sump/refuge also is a great idea. But we are definitly keep it even though some people said that the resealing won't last. We resealed my 55g FW and so far go good. Knock on wood!

OOoppsss. sorry! Ha! I've been messing around in the other forums! Yikes!
They seem to be getting along alright. The 2 b/w's follow Nemo around and she lets them The male clown, "No Name", doesn't let them near his anemone, thoguh, but everything is going well, at this time!

Rabbit, what kind of lighting were you running on your 55g with the 2 Sebae anemones? I am starting up and want to get the right lighting to be able to have one of those. Thanks! J
