How many fish for a 46 gal?

Hello,
I have a question that I am sure has been answered many a time...:notsure: but I can't find the answer in the search site.
So, what is the general rule of thumb on fish size, inches to gallon?
I plan on tentatively adding some of the following fish:
:happyfish -1 Midas blenny
-2 pipe fish
-2 clowns
-and maybe a small tang
-plus a cleaning crew
This will be a fish only tank, with 55lbs of LR. I am waiting for the tank to cycle, and want to start my 'research' on the specific fish and their behaviors/needs.

Thanks for any info you can provide.
By the way, this site rocks:happy: . The knowledge being shared is SO helpful for newbies!
Take care,
Franz

Hiya,
The rule is 1" of fish to every 5 gallons. I don't know much about pipe fish, but aren't they related to seahorses? If so, I don't think they'll mix well with the clown. However, I know someone will jump in here and help you out.

A tang will not fair well in a 46 gallon..that size does not provide the horizontal swimming room that the species requires.

Consider a centropyge angel to replace your desire for a tang.But..only add him after your tank has matured..8-10 months.

Thanks for the feedback and recommendations!
I will wait till my tank matures to add a centropyge angel.
How would a coral beauty fare with my tank size.
Also, does anyone have experience or knowledge with ringed pipefish?:notsure: I would like to have a pair...
Thanks again for all your advice.
Take care,
Franz

From what I read, on site and in books...Pipe fish (ringed) are anywhere from easy to difficult to have.
So there goes my 'pipe' dreams...so to speak!
Are there any sites or books that anyone can recommend for info on fish.
SWF order site only give original size, not what they will grow to...so, I would like to know some additional info before ordering.
Thanks for any feedback:yes:

The tanks seem ok but definetly no pipfishes they need a species only tank. And a big No on the tang most need at least a 125G tank. Everything else should be cool as long as you put the 2 clowns in at the same time, otherwise there might be some trouble. Also i think but am not positive but i think the coral beauty would be ok.
