Hi Brian, no need to put fish in to cycle any tank. You can feed the tank like you have a fish in it and it will do the same. You can also use live rock..doesn't make a difference how much. It will cycle with 5 pounds or 50 just slower with less amount. Why put a fish through this (cycling process)? It stresses the fish and they could die. JMO Cooder
I cycled my 55 with 4 damsels. But, do yourself a favor and git green chromis damsels. These are non-agressive, and can stay in your tank, after the cycle period. If you plan on live rock, this will do a better job, and your tank will do a lot better.
the rock says...
chromis only if you don't want to have the damsels in there after you are done cycling, the rock says to use live rock and a bio booster and be patient until its done, with live rock and bio booster it shouldn't take more than two weeks before the nitrites have come down to nothing
